Mrs. Reedy's Child Growth and Development students had the opportunity to attend a public speaking event by Dr. Temple Grandin at South Side Bee Branch.
Dr. Grandin is a renowned animal behaviorist and autism activist. She is a professor of Animal Science at Colorado State University and has written many books on autism, different types of thinking and animal behavior. Some main points from her speech was to help children who think differently with more hands-on activities and to make sure that schools continue to provide art, music, theater, sewing, cooking, woodworking, and computer programming. She also recognized the importance of older students having access to classes such as welding, auto mechanics, family and consumer science and computer science.
